The Future Of The Mac: ARM-Revolution

Back in 1984, the Mac carried the slogan " The computer for the rest of us" . The Macintosh was special because of its new mouse input feature and the idea of revolutionizing the way people interacted with computers. Some features still remained today like the Apple logo in the newest macOS versions alongside the menubar.  The evolution of the Mac carried along with the challenges the computer industry has had to face over the decades. The internet was one of the biggest influencers of Mac hardware. For instance, the biggest selling point of the iMac G3 back in 1998 was internet compatibility. It was advertised as the default gateway for accessing the internet.  The next step that Macs took began with the transition from the PowerPC (PPC) platform developed by IBM to the x86 Intel platform. This was a necessity since the efficiency and power output of the PPC wouldn't be as competitive as on the x86-architecture. Efficiency was the biggest influence for an evolutionar...

How To Fix Your Macbook Keyboard (Software Solution Included)

A while back I wrote about problems that could occur with modern notebooks. I mentioned the keyboard problem of many MacBooks released after 2016.  A quick recap of the issue: These laptops have a refined keyboard mechanism with new "butterfly" switches. This was allegedly a necessity since Apple wanted to make the newest iterations of their notebooks quite thinner and decided to develop a new keyboard mechanism with less travel and hight being used in the case.  The keyboards can have some problems such as double or even more keystrokes when pressing on one key. My keyboard was especially affected by this with the "E" and space key. Some users also report being unable to press the button because of it being hard.  Apple acknowledges these problems and mentions that this problem only affects a small user base. From experience, I can say that it depends on the usage of your keyboard. If you are a student who types a lot, then the risk of getting prob...

Preventing data loss - How to backup files properly

Let's imagine a scenario that is not really unlikely to happen to you: You are drinking a cup of coffee and checking some typos on your essay that you wrote yesterday. Obviously, your headphones were plugged in and you simply enjoyed the time that you had available all for yourself. Fresh air brings new ideas and is a must after intensive work so you get up from your chair. What you forgot is that your headphones were beneath your coffee mug and as soon as you got up, your laptop and smartphone got full of liquid.  Now every minute counts: You turn your notebook off immediately and let it dry for a bit. But what If you are one of the Mac users with a soldered storages device or even with a T2 Security chip and your notebook does not turn on at all to save all your data that you had? This is where a reliable and proper backup comes in. In some cases, your data such as pictures, documents for work or university are more important than a MacBook. They could be more expensi...

Should you buy an antivirus software in 2020?

With the growth of the internet came a threat to operating systems in form of viruses, malware, and spyware. Back in the days when computers didn't have an app store, popups appeared upon restart and when installing additional software on your computer. Updates, new feature announcements or ads. Everything was happening at ones, no one understood it but at least Internet Explorer and Microsoft Excel opened up. I wound say that these days where the dark days of the internet era. People with little to none knowledge about properly using a computer had bad experiences because of the unknowingly installed software running in the background sucking power and resources that could have been used for the programs the user actually had an interest in. Some people even had a hard time opening the task manager to force quit the application that caused this slow experience.  In recent years the quality of viruses has changed dramatically. Many organizations have been affected by data hos...

Why you should quit using Google Search!

Let's begin with the obvious facts: Google Search is not prone for its privacy and user anonymity. In fact, the goal of most companies from the valley is about farming data about you. It's not that they want to scam or blackmail you. The goal is to create a personal image of the user to target ads and campaigns for companies that try to reach a specific audience. A vacuum manufacturer obviously tries to reach people that regularly use a vacuum and have an interest in having a nice and functioning one. So, the perfect audience for a vacuum ad could be housewives and professional cleaning companies for example. Like I mentioned in one of my previous posts about privacy, cookies are one of the main data access points for creating a user profile. With the help of the EU, users have gained the ability to check the cookie usages on websites and can choose to only save the necessary cookies to have a properly functioning website.  But there are alternatives in which data ca...

How to gain your privacy back on the internet

Germany takes privacy very serious. The abuse of personal information and trust by the Nazis with the Gestapo and the socialists with the Stasi organization showed Germans why information is a very valuable good.  This is also one of the reasons innovative technologies take time to get implemented in Germany and the usage of credit cards are extremely low compared to countries like the USA.  One of the most important things to consider in the 21th century is privacy.  That is why I decided to write this quick post about how you can avoid leaving any footprints behind you with your daily internet consumption.  Here are some important points: 1. Cookies Cookies are one of the most important aspects you need to worry about when browsing through the internet.  Cookies are essentially small data packs that include some information about the website you have visited. For example, settings for visuals or your login information. The problem with c...

How to make your PC faster for free or cheap

Note: I'm not responsible for any kind of damages caused by your actions or my advices. This is just an article with some tips for you to have an overview of your options when having an issue with a computer.  A while ago, I saw an advertisement about a USB Stick that claims to make your PC run like a new one while I was browsing YouTube. The product looked like a basic SanDisk USB Drive and was connected to an older HP Laptop from about 2009.  First it seemed like a scam and I was ready to report it. But a few seconds in, I noticed that in a comparison between the Notebook with and without the stick, that the PCs had totally different environments running. At this point I was pretty sure of what was going on here. What was happening? The ad shows a ferly old notebook running Windows Vista to compare the speed against the same notebook with the promoted product plugged in. The basic Vista Notebook is struggling to open up a video without the Stick...

Owning Or Sharing?

The  internet showed us a direct illustration of the ongoing globalization that has brought many advantages to make our lives easier. Smartphones and personal computers became tools to make us more productive within a limited time. Surprisingly it also changed the way people own or use other devices related to the pre-internet era. It’s very noticeable looking at cars, bikes or other electronic devices.  Carsharing is made for millennials Everyone must have seen some sort of bookable cars in their local town. Those cars are easy to book and budget friendly for a short drive to the supermarket.  The concept of carsharing is a new phenomenon linked to the idea of creating new ways of transportation and is also a moving trend into not owning things that you don’t use every hour of your life.  It’s a popular idea mostly understood by the millennials of this world. Why should anyone own a 30,000$+ car which they only use a few hours within a week and create mor...

Not The Way Apple Does Things

Try this: Reinvent the personal computer, mobile phone and the whole music industry.  This is what Apple did in the last two decades of its existence and how they changed the way people live. Just by looking at the creative minds within the millennium generation, one can see that a new wave of open-minded people had better ways to expressing themselves with the tools Apple engineered.  Co-founder Steve Jobs was one of the reasons why the company named after the fruit became so successful within the few years of its lifespan. He created a whole new company culture with his company motto named “think different”.  Indeed, Apple was the company that thought different when all the other companies only looked ahead to make profit. Starting with the legendary Apple II that eventually ended up as an affordable console and personal computer for families all around the US. Future all the way! Apple was a company that focused itself to reinvent for the future and did...

2019 European Parliament Election

The first and last time I was  right in front of the European Parliament   in Brussels was in January 2018 to take a look at the building and the museum next to it. The building in which the parliament constitutes itself look very huge and overwhelming. Those descriptions exactly describe the current perspective looking at the European Union by many EU citizens. And that is for a reason.   The European Union is going through a tough time since the financial crises in 2008 and still aims to recover itself from all the misinterpretation and crises that it has been facing. The refugee crises for example is to this date a problem waiting to be solved and keeps being pushed away.  It’s safe to say that it’s not the fault of one political ideology but the whole political community by not being able to create a habitable country for the refuge seeking human beings in their homelands. Misinformation from minor groups are just one of the reasons the continent st...
